Shifting to Wintery Weather

Dear Holy Trinity Families,

It is my most sincere wish that your Thanksgiving holiday was filled with many moments that added to the treasured memories that make up the tapestry life.  The shift to wintery weather certainly didn’t wait for the turkey to cool before beginning the transformation to a winter wonderland.   As we had our second snow day of the year, as I am sure our scholars enjoyed, I took some more time to reflect on all for which I am thankful.  We belong to a vibrant, enriched, spiritual, and Christ-centered community through our shared involvement (no matter how small) in Holy Trinity School.

As I walked through classrooms Monday, after answering the requisite “What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?”, the next statement was the delightful declaration that, “Christmas is NEXT!”  Indeed, we are preparing our school, classrooms, homes, and hearts for the celebration of our most precious and profound gift from our Heavenly Father--Christ’s birth!   Every year, my husband and I have a tradition of placing our Nativity in a place of prominence as soon as we have cleaned up from our Thanksgiving feasting (or first thing the next morning if we spend the day with family away from our home).  We carefully unpack our creche, unwrap our manger, wise men, proud parents, and finally, the Christ child.  There is a feeling of delight, awe, and profound peace I experience every time we place Jesus under the watchful and adoring gaze of his earthly parents.

This year, I experienced a new rush of emotion when we placed Christ in his manger.  In that small, meaningful moment, I felt the most profound sense of gratitude, pride, and humility as I was hit with the realization (again) that just as Mary and Joseph were entrusted with God’s greatest gift to the world, our school parents, families, and community have entrusted us with a similar task.  Each day, our scholars come to us ready for a new day and it is my greatest joy to be part of this wonderful faith community.

As we enter the season of Advent, I ask we find small ways to show others our appreciation for them and the many blessings we enjoy.  Some days maybe challenging, but in the end, we are all working together for a much greater goal and together we can help one another grow as we work toward that greater good. You will find a “25 Acts of Kindness for Christmas” calendar.  Perhaps we can all follow the example set by our fantastic Kindness Club and challenge ourselves and each other to do one act of kindness a day for an alternative Advent Calendar activity!

Happy Advent!

Sincerely in Christ,

Dr. Young

8th Grade Recommendations: This is a bittersweet one for me!  8th Graders, you will probably be getting ready to apply for high school and will need some principal and teacher referrals.  If the school(s) to which you are applying require a written referral that the school must send, please deliver the printed request form with your information included and a stamped envelope, addressed to the school you are applying to with Holy Trinity as the return address to each person from whom you are requesting a referral.  This will help us get the information to the proper party efficiently.   (I am not quite ready to let these young women go yet!  *sniff*)

#GivingTuesday:  HTS has a #GivingTuesday campaign running on Facebook through 12/11/18.  This is a small fundraising effort through which we can reach out to those who we know through Facebook and invite support for our wonderful learning community.  There is a shareable post on the schooFacebook page.  Thank you again for all you do to support our school!

FairTradeCaravan Fundraiser: This effort has come to an end and we had quite a show of support (and got some Christmas shopping done too!)  Completed orders will be delivered to the school and Dr. Young will contact those who ordered to arrange pick up.  Thank you again for your support!

Holy Trinity Christmas Nativity Pageant: Join us on the evening of Thursday, December 13th for our school Christmas program.  This year will feature a students’ chorus, play presented by our junior high, and a finale by our Kindergarten and PreKindergarten classes.

Send your child in with their school savings account bank book and money and we’ll deposit it for them. Even the smallest amount will add up over time. Your child doesn’t have a bank account?
